    It’s a Hybrid World


    IT teams and resources are stretched, and the adage “use the right tool for the job” rings truer than ever. Increasingly, organizations are heeding this advice when it comes to their cloud infrastructure. They are finding that “the right location for the workload” is key to delivering performance, optimizing cost, providing security and remaining agile to support their users’ demands. They are deploying workloads in private clouds, public clouds and edge locations. However, multiple options for workload placement may multiply complexity and/or increases cost and risk.

    IT teams are finding that the best solution is a purposeful approach that provides a consistent set of services across locations: a hybrid cloud. A recent survey by The Enterprise Strategy Group found 48% of organizations currently use a hybrid cloud model, and an additional 27% plan on adopting it within 12-24 months. And it’s easy to see why – organizations like the ease and agility of the public cloud experience with the similar level of control and security wherever applications run. 

    Delivering Breakthroughs for Customers


    Drawing on our experiences, we apply the following five tenets to guide our efforts for organizations:

    1. Simplify hybrid cloud management.

    We mentioned earlier that having a myriad of deployment options is not enough. Multiple options with different control planes and divergent services often increase complexity. Dell and Microsoft seek to reduce that complexity by bringing to market hybrid cloud solutions that feature consistent services and streamlined operations across public, private and edge locations. One example is the Dell Integrated System for Microsoft Azure Stack HCI, which is purpose-built to deliver an optimized Azure hybrid cloud experience through Azure Arc. Azure Arc enables customers to have a consistent self-service approach to managing their applications across public, private and edge deployments.

    2. Plan for workload placement agility.

    The “right location” isn’t set once and done. Workloads and organizational requirements change over time. Customers want a consistent operating model with easy mobility of their workloads across different environments based on consumption patterns. Consistent cloud infrastructure also makes learning and leveraging existing skill sets easy and enables IT teams to modernize data centers with minimum disruptions to existing IT operations. Dell has validated Azure Arc on several infrastructure solutions, and moving forward, we see Azure Arc and Azure Kubernetes Services (AKS) as key to maximizing application portability and data agility – making it possible for customers to have a more unified control plane across their hybrid IT footprint.

    3. Manage everything from a single location.

    Centralized management across a customer’s IT environment from one location enables workload management at scale. A unified control point simplifies and reduces the complexity that comes with the proliferation of multiple workload placement options. Our OpenManage Integration with Windows Admin Center for Dell Integrated System for Microsoft Azure Stack HCI makes a unified control point possible. A single management plane and a familiar set of tools give IT teams the observability, insights and control they need wherever apps and data reside.

    4. Design with security in mind.

    With customer workloads distributed across multiple locations, the traditional security model has evolved into a Zero Trust security model. Security of a customer’s environment should be inherent in its design. Microsoft and Dell are building security capabilities into the hardware and software layers where data and apps reside. We start with the processors by leveraging the secure foundation of Intel’s 3rd generation Xeon CPUs. We build on the silicon root of trust with secure boot and layer-on capabilities like infrastructure lock, role-based access control and multi-factor authentication that are the basis for establishing a Zero Trust Architecture. We also facilitate compliance and security through integration with Azure management and governance services for centralized enforcement of policies. The tools and capabilities provided by Microsoft Defender and Windows Admin Center strengthen the security posture of customers’ data centers and ensure privileged identities are protected.

    5. Sustainability is paramount.

    For many customers, sustainability is a top priority. Dell’s commitment to carbon neutrality extends to our work with Microsoft, as we collaborate to design IT solutions that help you achieve your sustainability and energy efficiency goals. Azure Stack HCI combines compute, storage and networking in a smaller, yet scalable system to minimize power consumption, space requirements and cooling costs.     Mining

    Dell Technologies and Red Hat co-engineered Dell Telecom Infrastructure Blocks for Red Hat to provide the cloud foundation for 5G Core workloads running Red Hat OpenShift on bare metal. All hardware and software are tested, validated and integrated in Dell’s factories to deliver a turnkey, engineered system.

    With Telecom Infrastructure Blocks for Red Hat, CSPs utilize automation that allows them to pool infrastructure resources and quickly reconfigure hardware and software to meet changing workload requirements. Dell also introduced today new lab services that can validate the operation and performance of 5G Core workloads on Telecom Infrastructure Blocks. Currently, most mobile core networks are built on software stacks defined by the network function provider. These vertical network architectures reduce infrastructure utilization rates leading to higher infrastructure costs and increased power consumption. With Telecom Infrastructure Blocks for Red Hat and our new lab services, CSPs can quickly and easily migrate their existing “vertical” network architectures into a single, unified, horizontal cloud architecture with one management interface to improve infrastructure utilization rates, reduce costs and lower power consumption. According to ACG Research, CSPs can expect to see approximately a 15% improvement in infrastructure utilization rates by moving to a horizontal cloud architecture.

    Validate, Automate, Integrate – Telecom Infrastructure Blocks Do It All


    The primary benefits of Infrastructure Blocks can be summed up in three words: validate, automate and integrate.     The Next Generation of Data Protection for Enterprise Databases

    See What’s Cooking at OTEL: SoftBank Bake-Off


    If you’ve ever watched Top Chef, Hell’s Kitchen or Nailed It, you’ll know that too many cooks in the kitchen can quickly turn into chaos. In the technology world, we have a similar scenario known as a “bake-off,” where companies can test various vendor solutions in a kind of technology test kitchen to see which solution performs the best. This can not only get messy, but it can also become very expensive, especially when you factor in things like buying the test hardware, hosting the secure DevOps environment and hiring the experienced people to run it all.

    In order to cook up better solutions for the future without all that cost and complexity, Dell Technologies created its own state-of-the-art testing lab known as the Open Telecommunications Ecosystem Lab (or OTEL for short). OTEL provides a secure, hosted test kitchen for all manner of projects, from bake-offs and proofs of concept to solution integration testing. The goal of OTEL is to foster collaboration between operators and the vendor ecosystem to deliver the next generation of open telecommunications solutions, from Open RAN systems to 5G cloud networks.

    SoftBank Kicks Off its 5G Cloud Bake-off


    One of the more interesting projects that took place in OTEL is a core software providers bake-off for SoftBank’s 5G core cloud network. SoftBank invited some of the leading providers to participate in the performance testing and will ultimately select from this group to move forward with their 5G core cloud implementation. Traditionally, a project like this would take weeks to set up, require all-new hardware and present numerous challenges in terms of providing the security and integrity needed for multi-vendor performance assurance.     Last year, leaders from Trident Proposal Management were looking for a managed IT solution to support their growing business. The California-based consulting firm helps clients identify opportunities and prepare proposals for federal government contracts. We’re making management simple by offering one BIOS for the all-in-ones and one BIOS for the rest of the towers, saving valuable IT time.

    Dell has unmatched security, with unique off-host BIOS verification that captures and stores the image if the BIOS is corrupt and Indicators of Attack, an early-alert feature that helps IT identify potential threats. SafeID helps protect against identity compromise, securely storing and processing advanced authentication credentials in a dedicated security chip. Our customers can have peace of mind from the moment they place an order with our Secured Component Verification, a feature that allows customers to verify the integrity of Dell commercial products to ensure key components arrive as they were ordered and built, creating additional assurance of a safe supply chain.

    OptiPlex continues to invest in reliable product experiences, designed with quality-tested, sustainable components that are built to last. This year, we made Dell OptiPlex desktops with up to 59.6% post-consumer recycled plastics. Additionally, the chassis of select Dell OptiPlex desktops are made with a minimum of 10% recycled steel. We’re not only making your work better but our footprint smaller.

    The newly designed 24-inch All-in-One provides best-in-class performance, audio and video in a streamlined, elegant design. It features up to Intel® Core™ i9 processors, 64GB DDR5 memory and a retractable FHD or 5MP IR camera with Express Sign-in and intelligent privacy. This new technology ensures users will look and sound their best while collaborating more securely than ever. All new ergonomic stand options and low blue light-certified touch and non-touch panels provide comfortable all-day usage.

    The new OptiPlex Micro offers maximum productivity in an ultra-compact size. It features up to Intel® Core™ i9 processors and 64GB DDR5 memory. A great innovation this year is our single cable Type-C power delivery solution with the OptiPlex Micro (35W) configuration. Simply connect your Type-C cable from a Dell USB-C hub monitor to your Micro (35W) and get instant power, video and data with one single cable, for a clean and easy-to-set-up workspace.

    For those who need a wider array of performance options or ports than Micro, but still desire a space-conscious design, we are refreshing the Small Form Factor with up to Intel® Core™ i9 processors and 128GB DDR5 memory.

    And finally, we’ve built the new OptiPlex Tower for those who need the ultimate performance and expansion options with no compromise, featuring up to i9 125W processors running high-end NVIDIA® graphics cards and up to 128GB DDR5 memory.

    We’re pleased to extend Intel vPro® platform capabilities across the new portfolio.     ◉ Our ultra-premium Latitude 9440 is the world’s most collaborative commercial PC built with design inspiration from our XPS line. Perfect for an executive, consultant or salesperson, it’s equipped with the world’s first haptic collaboration touchpad for a more immersive, customizable conferencing experience. The two-in-one includes recycled and machined aluminum for a premium look and feel, and a stunning new keyboard with wider keys with no gaps, known as zero-lattice, that makes all day working comfortable.
    ◉ You can easily pop one of the Latitude 7340/7440 Ultralights in your bag as you move between meetings. Both start at just under/over one kilogram and are surprisingly light yet durable. We haven’t sacrificed features either. Each has a 16:10 display and 5MP camera for a productive workspace with mobile convenience.

    Precision. Creators, designers, engineers and other specialized power users have their own demands. They prioritize performance and graphics capabilities to run data and graphic intensive applications and software whether they are in the office, studio or on the move. We’re delivering new enhancements across our Precision mobile and fixed workstations – including the latest Intel 13th Gen® Core™ processors and NVIDIA RTX Ada Generation Laptop GPUs – to meet these needs.

    Last year we introduced a 14-inch workstation that delivered unrivaled power. This year the Precision 5480 features performance improvements from processor to graphic card and beyond. But it doesn’t stop there. We’ve added a 16-inch mobile workstation to our 5000 Series line-up. The Precision 5680 has the smallest 16-inch footprint in the world4 but packs an amazing punch, with up to Intel® Core™ i9 (45W) and up to 64GB of DDR5 memory with the NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada graphics Generation Laptop GPU. It offers even more power and immersive experiences with the 16:10 display and up to UHD+ with PremierColor in a stylish, lightweight package.

    OptiPlex. Three decades of continuous desktop innovation have led us to a new OptiPlex portfolio. We’ve listened to customer feedback, and it’s now easier than ever to configure, purchase and manage. We’ve simplified the portfolio so customers can quickly identify the system based on workspace and performance needs. For example, select between space-conscious designs and minimalist desk setups with a range of performance options, or prioritize the expandability and performance of a desktop tower.

    We’ve also made the portfolio more intelligent and easier for IT admins to manage multiple or even thousands of devices with a new single BIOS setup, freeing up valuable IT time. Including our standout product, the OptiPlex All-in-One that features comfort and style in a sleek design and comes with built-in collaboration, security and privacy features.

    A Branching Ecosystem


    A modern work setup requires both software and ecosystem solutions around the PC so we can efficiently maximize our productivity. 

    Imagine a super ultrawide screen – a 49” dual QHD curved monitor that allows you to split your display into two 27-inch QHD partitions – without the bezel in between for even more virtually seamless multitasking. That’s just what our new Dell UltraSharp 49 Curved USB-C Hub Monitor is designed to do. With financial traders, engineers and data analysts in mind for multiscreen productivity, you can connect and display content from two PCs simultaneously to one monitor. The 2000:1 contrast ratio IPS Black panel technology offers two times more color contrast than conventional IPS over a wide viewing angle. The USB-C hub monitor provides an array of connectivity options that powers your laptop up to 90W and delivers uninterrupted 2.5GbE connection via the built-in Ethernet port. Lastly, the monitor also features ComfortView Plus for enhanced eye comfort, and the integrated pop-out feature provides easy access to ports so you can connect your external devices easily. 

    We can’t overlook software. We are adding to Dell Optimizer’s existing features, such as intelligent audio, privacy, connectivity and collaboration that learn and respond to the way you work. Our customers told us the fewer applications to pull up and sift through, the better. That’s why our latest version of Dell Optimizer extends intelligence from the PC to the rest of your ecosystem. It allows you to manage your displays and peripherals more easily in one interface. We’re also improving our intelligent audio capabilities on our PCs. The echo-canceling feature cancels out distracting echoes for everyone on the call, and voice quality monitoring notifies you with a pop-up when your voice quality is poor.


    Catered to IT and Beyond


    Let’s shift to some of the features that will matter most to IT decision-makers. Our conversations with customers consistently focus on how Dell can help them reach their sustainability goals, enable secure hybrid work amidst growing cyberattack threats and simplify and reduce the burden on overwhelmed IT departments. In fact, 45% of ITDMs don’t have peace of mind their people can securely work from anywhere. We are constantly looking at ways to modernize and meet our customers in these crucial areas. 

    ◉ Sustainability. Dell continues to innovate and invest in sustainable design across our products and packaging. We’re expanding the use of low-carbon emissions aluminum to include more recycled content and extending this material to more of our portfolio, including the Latitude 9440 and Precision 5680, and to our Latitude 7000 series later this year. We’ve increased the percentage of post-consumer recycled materials to reduce the environmental impact further in our most sustainable Latitude laptop series, our Precision 3000 workstations and our latest commercial monitors. Plus, “Quiet Mode” within our thermal management settings of Dell Optimizer can provide up to 18% in power savings.
    ◉ Security and Manageability. Focused on delivering the industry’s most secure commercial PCs and creating a trusted workspace with hardware and software protections, our recent security announcement highlights new services and solutions. This includes a collaboration with CrowdStrike to offer customers more choice in cybersecurity software, a hardware supply chain security offering that provides additional assurances that PCs arrive as they were ordered and built from the factory as well as a managed detection and response service to help customers safeguard IT environments. We’re also making our devices as easy as possible to manage, deploy and use.
    ◉ Data and Device Management. Today we’re introducing Dell APEX Managed Device Service. For a monthly fee per device, small and medium businesses can transfer the burden of IT support to Dell and instead focus on their business. Additionally, our latest commercial devices are compatible with Dell’s Cloud Client Workspace software. IT admins can seamlessly and securely integrate PCs into their VDI environment and manage their fleet of devices more easily.
